RE: ADMISSION TO UCLA EXTENSION/CAL POLY POMONA
MASTER OF INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM
DATE: 10/06/10

Dear Arc_ID Student,

Please be advised that the following rules apply for those interested in applying for the UCLA Extension/Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) Master of Interior Architecture (MIA) Degree Program.  The deadline for Admissions Applications for Winter Quarter, 2011 is October 30, 2010.  All application materials must   be postmarked by this date. For this application cycle only, the portfolio requirement will be waived for all current
Arc_ID students. All other CPP application requirements must be fulfilled. Information on the application requirements can be found at:

http://www.csupomona.edu/~arc/masterinterior.html

CPP will endeavor to inform students as soon as possible regarding decisions on admission and registration instructions.  Students admitted into the MIA Program for Winter Quarter must register for at least one CPP class.  Upon notification of admission students may also sign up for appropriate MIA Advanced Courses offered through UCLA Extension.  Starting in Winter Quarter 2011, students wishing to pursue the MIA Degree will be required to fulfill the CPP “residency requirement.” In order to do this, students must first be admitted into the program and then register through CPP and complete at least the following 32 units of advanced classes:

INA 601 – Interior Architecture Studio III (6 Units

INA 602 – Interior Architecture Studio IV (6 Units)

INA 672 – Project Management (4 Units)

INA 691 – Masters Project Interior Architecture Studio (8 Units)

INA 695 – Masters Project Interior Architecture Documents (8 Units)

*Please note that although these classes are registered through Cal Poly, they will be held at UCLA Extension.

All students who were taking classes in the Interior Design Program prior to December 2009 and who have not yet completed the culminating experience, INA 695-Masters Project Interior Architecture Documents, are eligible to have the residency requirement waived AS LONG AS THEY ARE ADMITTED INTO THE MIA PROGRAM AND BEGIN TAKING CPP CLASSES BY JANUARY 2011.

Example #1: If you are a student who was already taking classes in the Interior Design Program prior to December, 2009, and by the end of Fall Quarter 2010 you will have completed some of the classes listed above, YOU MUST APPLY FOR ADMISSION BY OCTOBER 30, 2010 IN ORDER TO AVOID HAVING TO RETAKE THESE CLASSES.

Example #2: If you are a student who was already taking classes in the Interior Design Program prior to December, 2009, and you will need to start taking one or
more of the classes listed above starting January 2011, YOU MUST APPLY FOR ADMISSION BY OCTOBER 30, 2010 IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE TO EARN CREDIT FOR THESE CLASSES.

Example #3: If you are a student who was already taking classes in the Interior Design Program prior to December, 2009, and you took some of, or will need to start taking some of, the other Advanced Courses registered through UCLA Extension, YOU MUST APPLY FOR ADMISSION BY OCTOBER 30, 2010 IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE TO KEEP AND/OR EARN CREDIT FOR THESE CLASSES.

Example #4: If you are a student who started taking classes in the Interior Design Program after January, 2010, you are not eligible for a residency requirement waiver. However, if you want to start having Advanced Classes count towards the MIA Degree beginning January, 2011, YOU MUST APPLY FOR ADMISSION BY OCTOBER 30, 2010 IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE TO EARN CREDIT FOR THESE CLASSES.

Example #5: All other students, who are in some stage of taking Pre-requisite classes, and who wish to pursue the MIA Degree, should plan to apply for admission the quarter before they expect to begin taking Advanced Classes.

If you have any questions regarding the admissions process, please consult the Cal Poly web site.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Daniels, AIA
Program Director
