Interior Design News & Events

Michelle's Boutique 18 AwardNews:
UCLA Extension Arc_ID would like to congratulate our soon-to-be graduate, Michelle Aitala, (pictured right) who has received a special award from Botique Design for her  beautiful work at Morel’s French Steakhouse and Bistro at the Palazzo in Las Vegas. Michelle is a project designer with Ralph Gentile Architects. You can read her comments on the design process and approaches in Boutique Design (link) magazine this month!

We would also like to recognize ARC_ID Advisory Board Member Darrell Schmitt, ASID and his Design Associates for their Hospitality Design Award based on work for the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills. They will be honored on Thursday, June 4th at the Hudson Theatre at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York. The work will also be published in the May/June issue of Hospitality Design magazine.

ASID Allied Member and Arc-ID Student Rachel Winokur invites you to join her on a Green Decorator Showcase in a LEED Platinum and Green Point Rated home this July. The Showcase house will be part of a week full of highly publicized design events prior to the house tours. You can team up with a professional designer in each staging area to decorate, a set-up similar to the Pasadena Showcase or Greystone Mansion. The basic finishes and light fixtures in the house will already be completed, so decoration will primarily focus on wallcoverings, furniture and accessories. (www.ettadesigns.com)

Join ARC-ID Graduates Haily Zaki and Lori Dennis, ASID, LEED AP for a The Platinum Showcase! It’s a special chance to work alongside some of Los Angeles’ finest interior & industrial designers as they fuse visual and sonic design in a 3-D space at The Lofts @ Cherokee Studios. This space has a storied Los Angeles history closely connected with the music business. Set up and staging will take place in late August or early September. Visit the website for more details!

Event – CA Boom Design Show (6/26-28)

The Arc_ID Program would like you to know about CA Boom Design Show June 26-28 (link)!

Excerpts from the HDmag site about the event:

The CA Boom Design Show—North America’s only multi-discipline nontraditional design trade fair exhibition combining the highest caliber of architects, designers, and design manufacturers on the West Coast—takes place in Beverly Hills June 26-28. The show is geared toward both the design trade and consumers. The event outgrew last year’s Barkar Hangar site in Santa Monica, and show manager Charles Trotter decided to move the exhibition into the mid-century modern former Robinsons-May department store in Beverly Hills…

This year’s show will include a 40,000-square-foot CA Boom Design Store, where attendees can purchase some of the merchandise from major and independent design manufactures participating in the show. The CA Boom Design Store has partnered with Project Angel Food, a not-for-profit that cooks and delivers meals to men, women, and children affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses…

…Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. will be reserved as a “Trade-Only Day,” open to qualified design, building, and entertainment industry professionals. Trade attendees are also permitted and encouraged to bring their non-trade clients to walk the show during the CA Boom Friday Trade Day. The day will segue into the CA Boom Friday Night Event, open to the general public for an admission price of $20 in advance or $25 at the door. CA Boom Trade attendees may come anytime Friday and stay through to the closing of the CA Boom Friday Night event.

We hope to see you there!
