Course Spotlight: Digital Presentation II: ArchiCAD

This fall Abeer Sweis is teaching an ArchiCAD (Reg# V2551) course for those interested in learning a new 3-D approach to design. The class will take place Thursday nights from 7-10pm at the UNEX building, Room 621 and runs from September 21- December 7, 2009. This course introduces students to the emerging world standard for architectural software. This dual-platform (Mac and Windows) application allows designers to easily draw a floor plan and create a complete virtual building that automatically generates construction documents, full-color renderings. Prerequisite: Design Communication II and/or drafting knowledge. The class uses a Windows operating system, but you may use a Mac at home if you wish.

ArchiCAD gives you more control over your design while maintaining accuracy and efficiency in documentation. While you raise walls, lay floors, add doors and windows, etc this Building Information Authoring Tool creates a central database of 3D model information.

I think it really great this class is being offered. It would be interesting not only to experience the software but start to collaborate in ‘teamwork’ on vast design projects as well.
