What students are saying:

In regards to Design Communication I:

“This is very helpful class. All the course materials really help students understand the architecture scale, lettering, and how to draw 2 & 3 dimensional space.”

“Great course! I got so much more out of the course than I had anticipated. Very challenging, in a good way. Shepard’s high standards were also good–makes the course very professional & achieving his standards is confidence-boosting.”

“The pace of the class is very fast, considering the scope of what is covered, but in hindsight, I really appreciate the fast pace & think it is just right. I don’t think anyone expects the amount of work that we did in DC I! I really feel like I accomplished something huge.”

“I felt that the course was structured in a way that gently eased me into the very unchartered and mysterious waters of architectural drafting. I had no idea what to expect but I heard that Shepard was a fantastic teacher and specifically chose to take the class with him. The course began with the most basic skills (how to draw a straight line) and stretched into much more complex assignments (drawing and rendering 2 pt. perspectives). The course is very challenging and required significant attention. It was a very time consuming course. But I have produced work that I am deeply proud of and have gained confidence in my abilities. It’s been a very rewarding experience.”

In regards to Elements of Design I:

“My favorite part of the course was learning to create patterns by hand and with software program, especially using color to create different results. I especially appreciate seeing patterns in real life knowing how they can be created.”

“The class was challenging but not impossible. In the end, a student completing this course of study would be well prepared to not only proceed to a higher level but also meet any challenges outside the classroom setting.”

“A very challenging and enjoyable class. It was daunting at first, and like many other students, it felt like I wasn’t going to be able to complete all the expected tasks but, I made it through and I honestly truly enjoyed the challenge! Everything was due at the end of the quarter, so it forced me to stay on schedule and on top of my work.”

General remarks about the instructor:

“Shepard is wonderful! He is so patient and kind and nothing is ever too much for him. He takes the time to sit with each student when needed and guide them on the right path.”

“Shepard is an excellent instructor who treats his students as respectable and capable adults, communicates the material very clearly, and is available for any questions.”

“Shepard Vineberg is nothing short of a fabulous gem. He is a rock. He is knowledgeable and supportive and kind and funny. He gradually introduced new material each week and I never felt overwhelmed or ‘under water’ in the class.”

“Exceptional instructor with impressive patience to explain the most specific details to each and every student. Also we received specific written instructions on weekly basis to guide us through our work by him and his assistant.”
