Certificate Program Prerequisite Foundation Level Courses

The Interior Design Certificate consists of 18 classes (82 units) and provides a basic foundation level of education in Interior Design. Students can begin the Certificate Program at any quarter of the year. A full-time student enrolls in three courses per quarter and can complete the program in a minimum of 1.5 years (6 quarters). Part-time students may take one or two courses per quarter and complete the program at their own pace.

Although it is recommended that students become candidates when beginning the program, they may take up to five courses before establishing candidacy. Also, advanced standing may be granted, subject to review by the Program Advisor, to qualified candidates for educational work done prior to the completion of their first course in this program.

International Students are required to attend at a full-time pace (minimum of 12 units per quarter) and must establish Candidacy before starting classes. To apply for Candidacy as an International Student, click here. For more information, please visit the International Student Office or call (310) 825-9351.

Students who complete the Certificate with a grade point average of 3.0 or better and have a Bachelor’s Degree are eligible for the Master of Interior Architecture degree. Please see the Master of Interior Architecture for more details. All courses must be taken “For Credit-Letter Grade” and must be completed with a grade of “B” or better to count toward the Master’s Degree.
