UCLA Extension Arc_ID instructor, Betty Merken (pictured above), has been selected as a Summer 2010 Residency Fellow at the BAU Institute.

The mission of the BAU Institute is to support and enhance creativity in arts and architecture while providing an international forum for cultural exchange related to building, arts, and urbanism. Through the residency program creative professionals are provided uninterrupted time for work, reflection, research and interaction in the culturally rich, beautiful seaside city of Otrano, Italy.

Ms. Merken is an artist and architectural Colorist that has taught for the interior design program since 1996. She will be teaching The Language of Color (V4484) Winter Quarter 2010. Whether you are a professional or a beginner, this fun and practical hands-on workshop can help fill your life with exciting colors. Using water-based gouache paint and guided by proven color theory systems, one can learn the “keys” to mixing color as well as how to select and use colors to maximize their effects, create palettes and aesthetic harmony. Participants also explore how colors affect human behavior, mood, and context. This two-day workshop (1 unit) will be on Saturday and Sunday, March 6th and 7th.
