Design News & Info

We have a few tidbits of news and information from this week that we’d like to share:

*Reminder to UCLA Extension Arc_ID students and recent graduates that the deadline for NCIDQ Exam late registration ends in 4 days (on August 17th)! You can register here.

**Dwell Magazine offers an excellent vacation idea – Rent an architectural masterpiece! “Ever wonder what it would be like to live in a house designed by a world-class architect? The team behind the new venture Living Architecture lamented the fact that most people only experience great architecture in large public spaces like transit hubs and museums, while exceptional residential architecture remains private. In response, they have commissioned a number of superior architects to design a series of homes that will be available to rent year-round.”
Sounds pretty great (and unique!) to us.

***We urge all those interested in sustainability and green design to pre-order Emily Pilloton’s new book Design Revolution: 100 Products that Empower People. It will be released on October 31st. Amazon describes it thus: ” Featuring more than 100 contemporary design products and systems–safer baby bottles, a high-tech waterless washing machine, low-cost prosthetics for landmine victims, Braille-based Lego-style building blocks for blind children, wheelchairs for rugged conditions, sugarcane charcoal, universal composting systems, DIY soccer balls–that are as fascinating as they are revolutionary, this exceptionally smart, friendly and well-designed volume makes the case for design as a tool to solve some of the world’s biggest social problems in beautiful, sustainable and engaging ways.”
