Robert Bruce Thompson 2016 Student Light Fixture Design Competition

Awards

  • First Prize: The Thompson Prize is a cash award of $5,000, plus a trophy.
  • Second Prize: The Award of Distinction is a cash award of $2,500, plus a plaque.
  • Third Prize: The Award of Merit is a cash award of $1,000, plus a plaque.
  • Special Citations: A Special Citation is a cash award of $500, plus a plaque.

Eligibility

  • Entrants must be full time students, enrolled in an accredited academic degree program in the United States. Approved programs include architectural engineering programs, architecture programs, interior design programs, theater, or industrial design programs. Because of the high level of competition, it is recommended that entrants be undergraduate seniors or graduate students.
  • Only individuals may apply. Group projects are not acceptable.
  • The fixture must be designed within the past year and while the entrant is a student.
  • A faculty member at the student’s school must sponsor the application.

Deadline
Online submissions must be uploaded by 11:59pm April 1, 2016.

Instructor: Mark Lewison, MS Interior Design, University of Massachusetts, has been principal of Mark Lewison Design over 25 years and has completed custom residential projects throughout the United States and Caribbean. In addition to his design practice and teaching, Mark also designs and markets interior design centered software applications to both professional designers and end user clients for smart devices, as Mark on Call/PTRMRK, INC. Mark has utilized his professional background including lighting and specifications as well as actual Industry and client scenarios to teach Lighting Design, Surface Materials and Specifications and Design Studio courses since 2007.

17th Annual SoCal Student Lighting Competition – Register Today!

You’re invited to join us for the 17th Annual SoCal Student Lighting Competition!

This year the Design Lighting Forum (DLF) challenges lighting, interior design, architecture, or engineering students to design and build a children’s bedside table lamp utilizing two different lamps for a high and low setting.

Entry into this competition is free – but limited to students currently enrolled in a design program. There are over $4,000 in cash money prizes available for the winning projects. Be sure to download the competition brochure, and then head on over the registration page to enter the competition.

Join ASID UCLA Extension on Friday, February 20, 2015 for a Light Lab session to learn about various subjects within lighting and the latest advances.
