New Job and Internship Openings Listed!

Instructors and Students Working Together art2One of the great benefits of being an Arc+ID Certificate or Master’s student is having free access to jobs and internships specific to your field of study. The Arc+ID website features a Job + Internship Opportunity page which lists a variety of available job and internship positions submitted directly from firms looking to hire our talented students.

To gain access to the listing, simply fill out and submit the New User Registration form. Once your information is received, we will verify your eligibility and grant you access. Accounts are valid for 4 years after access is granted, but eligible students may renew their expired account by contacting the Arc+ID office.

This benefit is only available to Candidate students pursuing the Certificate of Interior Design or Master’s students in the MIA Program. To establish candidacy, click here and select “Enroll Now” or call the Registration office at (310) 825-9971. The Candidacy Reg# is CF573.

Important Changes to the Job + Internship Subscription

Instructors and Students Working Together art2Accessing the Arc+ID Jobs + Internships listings is a benefit that only available to Candidate students pursuing the Certificate of Interior Design or Master’s students in the MIA Program. We are happy to announce that as of January 2016, access to the Jobs + Internships listings has been extended from 90 days to 4 years.

All existing user account have automatically been updated to reflect this change. After 4 years has elapsed, eligible students may renew their expired account by contacting the Arc+ID office.

 

Have you landed a job or internship that you found on our listing? We’d love to hear your feedback regarding your experience with the website.  Please send us a short response describing the following:

  • Type of Employment— Part-time, Full-time or Internship:
    • Name of Company/Firm
    • Average hours per week
    • Approximate length of time you were employed
    • Would you recommend this position to others?
  • Have you ever applied for a position listed on the website and informed that the position was already filled?
  • Any other comments?

NEW CLASS: Advanced SketchUp

You have basic SketchUp design skills under your belt, now take it to the next level with the new Advanced SketchUp class! This 6-week online course is ideal for the designer looking to maximize his or her 3D modeling abilities. Learn new tools and functions including creating custom materials and furniture components, importing scenes from Google Earth to give a realistic feel to your design, and recording interactive tours through or around your model.

Advanced SketchUp will be offered starting in the Winter 2016 Quarter.

NEW CLASS: Advanced Portfolio and Presentation Techniques

Starting in the Winter 2016, UCLA Extension’s Architecture & Interior Design Program will be offering Advanced Portfolio and Presentation Techniques, the perfect class for students who have completed the Interior Design Certificate program and are ready to start the Master’s Program, or who want to put together their portfolio to land a job in the design industry.

Advanced Portfolio and Presentation Techniques will be taught by Ziya Cetik, MIA, LEED® AP ID+C, a graduate of the Master of Interior Architecture program at UCLA Extension. This course demonstrates the proper verbal and graphic skills needed to create the ideal portfolio and design presentation. The foundational software skills acquired in the Digital Presentation classes are enhanced by incorporating new digital design tools and printed/digital presentation techniques. Verbal presentation techniques and employer/client expectations are also covered. This is an integral course for those who are looking for internship opportunities or transitioning to the design industry as working professionals straight from school. 

Permission to enroll required. If you taken or are currently enrolled in Interior Design Studio II or have Advanced Standing for that class, then you are eligible to enroll in the course.

WestEdge is a four-day event that offers the best in modern design, all in an environment designed to engage, entertain and inspire. The fair offers the opportunity to shop from premium home furnishings brands-many new to the West Coast and meet the designers behind thousands of inspiring products. In addition, attendees gain insight from leading names in the design industry with a full series of educational programs and special events.

The event includes a great panel discussion and one-on-one meet & greet’s which will be wonderful for students, alumni, and emerging professionals to attend! (See flyer for more details). This panel will really expose all students to different aspects of potential careers in design. Stephen Viscusi is moderating this – he is a global recruiter in the interior design industry. He is an American author, columnist, and broadcast journalist.  All those who attend are encouraged to bring business cards and resumes for immediate exposure in the industry. Tickets for the 3-day fair are only $25.

This year’s event will feature a panelist discussion and Q&A session with eleven special industry professionals–some of whom, such as Charrisse Johnston, Lucinda Pace, and Laura Schwartz-Muller, are graduates of the UCLA Extension/Cal Poly Pomona Master of Interior Architecture Program. Following the discussion will be a one-on-one portfolio and résumé review.

The Wilshire Ebell has been in constant operation since its construction in 1927.
