Do these advertising pieces look familiar? If so, you’ve been looking at the work of a Certificate of Interior Design alumnus, Lee Winnick!

That’s right! Lee Winnick, an Interior Design Certificate grad, and her talented creative team produced this campaign!

Lee WinnickLee Winnick has been working in advertising and graphic design for over 25 years in Los Angeles, London, and South Africa. It wasn’t until 2008 that she decided to take her passion of interior design to the next level and enroll in our Certificate program. It was in Eleanor Schrader’s Fundamentals of Interior Architecture that Lee’s love affair with interior design began.

“UCLA Extension provided me with the education that I needed to put my passion to work and extend my current business offering to include interior design” says Lee. After graduating in 2012, Lee officially incorporated interior branding—a niche area of business—into her company, fundi.

Last June, Lee and her team of eight were hired by UCLA Extension’s marketing team to re-design the Arc+ID brochure. “It was very exciting to be involved with this project and to be able to give back to an organization that had given me so much,” exclaimed Lee.

But the projects didn’t stop there! Not long after this initial project, Lee found herself working yet again with the marketing team to conceptualize and execute a UCLA Extension advertising campaign to promote the overall institution. The campaign has been highly visible—with large outdoor billboards, street-pole banners, bus tails, digital advertising, animated displays, and more!

“This campaign expressed my experience of what being a student at UCLA Extension means,” Lee explains, “UCLA Extension is an incredible way to educate and equip oneself to achieve both career and personal goals. So our campaign messages—‘be what you wanted to be when you grew up’ and ‘go from work you to do work you love’—resonated directly with me. After graduating from the Interior Design program, I was able to make the transition from client-based work to more creative, challenging endeavors.”

We asked Lee to share a piece of advice for other ambitious students that may be looking to pursue a career in her field of work. “Love what you do and do what you love. The design business—whether it is graphic design or interior design—is extremely hard work. In the words of Charles Eames, ‘the details are not the details. They make the design.’ So as designers, we need to ‘sweat the small stuff’ as it really does matter!”
