NEWH has announced their 4th Annual 2010 Sustainable Spa Competition!
The NEWH Sustainable Hospitality Design Competition will provide students with the opportunity to showcase their design skills while utilizing the very best in sustainable design products and practices. Application of Intent is due December 11, 2009. Entries are due February 26, 2010.
$5000 JLF/lone meadow Scholarship Award to the Student
$5000 Designtex award will go to the Interior Program the winning student attends

– October is Architecture Month! In 2007, under the leadership of Councilmember Tom LaBonge and the AIA Los Angeles Board of Directors, the month of OCTOBER was officially proclaimed as Architecture Month by the City of Los Angeles City Council. Architecture Month celebrates the built environment and inspires to bring a greater awareness of the importance of architecture and design to the community-at-large. AIA Advocacy Breakfast

AIA Los Angeles is hosting their annual advocacy breakfast on Friday, October 16 from 9-10am. On that day members of the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA/LA) will convene at Los Angeles City Hall to advocate the 2009 slate of issue briefs. This breakfast is a precursor the legislative meetings that will take place throughout the day. So, this is your chance to participate and actively engage with our local policy makers to advocate on important issues central to the architecture and design community! See flyer below for more info

AIA Design Awards – Reminder

Attention Students: The AIA Design Awards are one month away!
AIA Los Angeles will host its 16th Annual Design Awards presented by Italian Living | Umbria on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 (6:00 – 9:00 p.m.) at American Cinematheque at Hollywood’s historic Egyptian Theatre.

The AIA Los Angeles Design Awards acknowledge the best new architecture and urban design projects and will be presented in tandem with the Presidential Honors (announced in July), as well as the Architectural Foundation of Los Angeles (AFLA) Awards and the Cultural Affairs Commission (CAC) Awards.

AIA 2009 Design Awards

AIA LOS ANGELES congratulates ADOLFO NODAL the 2009 recipient of the GOOD GOVERNMENT AWARD. He will be honored at the 2009 AIA Design Awards Party on October 21 at the Egyptian Theatre.
AIA Design AwardsIn bestowing this award, we are recognizing his commitment to nurturing and improving the cultural landscape of the City of Los Angeles displayed by his leadership as the President of the Cultural Affairs Commission of the City of Los Angeles.

We honor his vision in helping to form a more livable city through his work with Farmlab and the restoration of the City’s historic Art Deco Neon and Electric Signs, amongst many other achievements dedicated to improving Los Angeles.
