In effort to develop a real-life catalogue, Design Within Reach has announced a national contest open to all design professionals and students. They are asking for project photos from entrants who have specified their products for recent commercial, hospitality, or residential sites. All entries must be original work and incorporate items from the DWR line. The winner will receive a $10,000 gift card good for DWR products, star in a DWR Studio event, and be featured in the DWR catalog and website.
“At Design Within Reach, we celebrate the modern aesthetic,” said CEO and president John Edelman. “We know our customers are inspired by looking at our catalogs. Now is their chance to have their designed spaces actually appear in our catalog and website.”
Visit the contest site for official rules and entry form. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on April 30, 2010.
To keep with 2010’s theme “Legends of La Cienega Celebrate Hollywood” students are being asked to design a room of their choice in a residential or commercial space that represents their vision for a certain film or television series or genre. (Examples given are the lobby of the Bates Motel, or Faye Dunaway’s living room in Mommie Dearest, or a kitchek for a particular sitcom, etc). Entries must be submitted by 6pm on Friday, April 30th to Paul Templeman-Holmes, Baker Furniture, 360 N. La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048 (you may email him at paul.templeman-holmes@kohler.com)
Students will need to produce two boards (at minimum) that show a rendered floor plan, elevations, furniture selections, and materials choices. Extra boards are certainly welcome if you wish to enhance the overall presentation. This project may be worked on in groups of up to 3 people. You may also seek assistance from LCDQ members regarding samples and tear sheets.
The winner will be chosen by five renowned designers and will receive press for their project in Elle Decor! The finalists work will be on display from Thursday May 6th to Monday May 10th with the winner being chose on Saturday, May 8th.
GOOD LUCK!
