Join us as this year’s Spring Market gives focus to the joyous enthusiasm and larger-than-life approach to the design process that is the trademark of the industry’s most creative aesthetes from across the disciplines. Throughout the 2-day Market enjoy nearly 100 presentations, keynotes, events and product intros featuring national editors, A-list thought-leaders and inspired craftsmen you can’t help but be “Mad” for, too!

Awards

  • First Prize: The Thompson Prize is a cash award of $5,000, plus a trophy.
  • Second Prize: The Award of Distinction is a cash award of $2,500, plus a plaque.
  • Third Prize: The Award of Merit is a cash award of $1,000, plus a plaque.
  • Special Citations: A Special Citation is a cash award of $500, plus a plaque.

Eligibility

  • Entrants must be full time students, enrolled in an accredited academic degree program in the United States. Approved programs include architectural engineering programs, architecture programs, interior design programs, theater, or industrial design programs. Because of the high level of competition, it is recommended that entrants be undergraduate seniors or graduate students.
  • Only individuals may apply. Group projects are not acceptable.
  • The fixture must be designed within the past year and while the entrant is a student.
  • A faculty member at the student’s school must sponsor the application.

Deadline
Online submissions must be uploaded by 11:59pm April 1, 2016.

designLAb celebrates its fifth year on Friday, January 22 from 5 to 9:30 PM with new art, architecture, design, sound and taste exhibitions as well as one-night only special performances. MOCA PDC also opens with Catherine Opie: 700 Nimes Road (for MOCA Members at 7PM), steps away from the designLAb galleries. designLAb is also pleased to welcome Rebecca Kopp, who serves as Varola Gallery and designLAb Manager. Ms Kopp will be working closely with designLAb Curator Helen Varola to explore and promote new cultural links between designLAb and the art and design community locally and internationally.

About designLAb 

designLAb provides a platform to explore art that addresses the design center‘s unique context of interior design, spanning a variety of art disciplines and media. designLAb is conceived and directed by New York-based curator Helen Varola and made possible by Charles S. Cohen, owner and president of Pacific Design Center, collector and generous supporter of MOCA Pacific Design Center.

designLAb is located on the second floor of PDC’s Blue Building and most galleries are open Monday – Friday from 11AM – 5PM or by appointment on Saturday. Enter the Blue Building on Melrose Avenue and use the escalators or elevators to visit the second floor.

Please also visit MOCA Pacific Design Center, open 11AM – 5PM, Tuesday – Friday; 11AM – 6PM on Saturday and Sunday; and closed on Monday. Admission to MOCA Pacific Design Center is always free.

Parking

Valet, garage, and street parking are available and complimentary parking for press is available by calling the PDC Parking Office one day in advance, Monday – Friday at 310-360-6417.

The 2015 year also commemorates PDC’s four decades of design leadership, serving as an iconic architectural landmark anchoring L.A.’s historic design district.
