The Jody Greenwald Archives

Woodbury University‘s Department of Interior Architecture hosted an evening with UCLA Extension Arc_ID founder Jody Greenwald last Sunday night where she was the recipient of the Ray Bradbury Creativity Award. At the request of Woodbury University Ms. Greenwald has generously donated her archives to their library to aid future generations of designers and educators.

After comments by several esteemed guests, including Arc_ID Outstanding Instructor Eleanor Schapa, Jody gave a brief slide show overview of her archives and past study tours, and shared a lively conversation with friend Ray Bradbury, who was also in attendence. Many former Arc_ID students and instructors attended the event, particularly those who had attended Jody’s famous study tours. We have lovely pictures of this event thanks to Jody’s grandson, David Greenwald. Click on any image below for a larger view.

I have a dear friend that took numerous classes from Ms. Greenwald and her daughter and wanted to reconnect. Can anyone tell me if she is still alive and her whereabouts, please, so that I may pass the information on? edward a schatz

I am sorry to say that both Jody and her daughter Anne passed away. Anne died in 2006 and Jody died in 2010.

So sorry to hear of both Jidy and Anne. I was a TA in one of Anne’s classes ca.1990 and, of course, was a student of Jody’s in numerous survey classes. RIP, you geniuses.

Jody was my mentor, teacher & friend, along with her husband, when I attended UCLA ID in 1974-75. It was the best education anyone could ask for in commercial and/or residential design & architecture. The education carried many down many paths & allowed me to be a positive influence, just like Jody, in so many lives. Today, at 72 years of age, I still own a wonderful company that encompasses all of my education from SMU Business School to UCLA Design & Architecture. Jody’s wonderful touch influenced my life in so many uncountable ways. Her spirit will always be in my heart. Thank you Jody Greenwald for steering so many of us down the path to success in what was and is at the core of our life’s passion – beauty & love in all things that we have the privilege to touch. Design being the architect of joy for countless persons!
